Vacancy for a Parish Councillor
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, following the resignation of Mike Newton, a casual vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Parish Council.
In accordance with Section 89(3) of the Local Government Act 1972, where the vacancy occurs within six months before the day on which the Councillor whose office is vacant would regularly have retired, an election shall not be held under Section 89(1) of the above Act, therefore the Parish Council will be required to fill the vacancy by co-option.
This will take place at a meeting of the Parish Council on Thursday 18th July 2019 at the Village Hall.
Anyone interested in applying should contact the Parish Clerk (see above) for a nomination form or more information.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 15th July.
All eligible candidates will be asked to complete a questionnaire, giving reasons why they should be considered for the vacancy and will then be invited to attend the meeting on the 18th July to introduce themselves to members.
A candidate for a Parish or Town Council is qualified if, when nominated:
- he or she is a British citizen, Commonwealth citizen, citizen of the Irish Republic or a citizen of another European Union State.
- has attained 18 years of age,
- is either in the register of electors for that Parish/Town or has during the whole of the preceding twelve months, occupied land as owner or tenant, had a principal place of work there, or resided in or within 4.8 kilometres of it.
